A new role could be on the table for John Cena, with WWE Hall of Fame and current AEW commentator Jim Ross offering an interesting suggestion for his future.
Speaking on the Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross suggested that John Cena could thrive in a commentary position during his upcoming involvement at WrestleMania 42.
“I’d like to hear John’s commentary. He’s smart, he’s got a way with words. I’m curious as to how he might do in that role,” Ross said. “There’s no doubt in my mind he’s got the talent for it. But I don’t know if he would be content with that or not. But he would do a good job, no doubt about that in my view.”
Cena is set to return to WWE as the host of WrestleMania 42, marking his first major appearance since stepping away from in-ring competition. His retirement match took place in December 2025 at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he was defeated by Gunther.
Since then, Cena has remained away from WWE television while focusing on his Hollywood career, leaving questions about how he may be utilised during his WrestleMania return.
When Was Jim Ross Last On AEW TV?
Jim Ross last appeared on AEW TV on the January 7 episode of Dynamite, which took place in Ross’ home state of Oklahoma. Ross was scheduled to make further appearances for AEW, but he had to postpone his next appearance after suffering a fall in his home.
