Jim Ross is optimistic that Tommaso Ciampa will sign with AEW following his WWE departure.
On January 21st, Tommaso Ciampa revealed that he would be leaving WWE when his contract expires “in the very near future.” As part of the announcement, The Blackheart explained that he planned to wrestle for another decade and was available “for all appearances, signings, photo ops, seminars, movies, TV appearances, fitness collaborations, sponsorships, and so forth.”
While there have been reports that Ciampa is looking to wrestle on the independent scene and potentially for New Japan Pro Wrestling, Jim Ross is hopeful that we’ll see the two-time NXT Champion in AEW.
Speaking on the latest edition of Grilling JR, the AEW commentator said Ciampa was “somebody you wouldn’t pass on.”
“He’s a good hand. I think that’s logical. I don’t know for sure. Where else? What are his other options? They’re there. He could also, he could get a deal in Japan. He worked their style well. But if I know AEW, as I do, he’s somebody you wouldn’t pass on. You know he’s a good worker, and he’s done, and he’s got a lot of name recognition, name identity. And in the business, I like his work.”
“I Hope That We Get Him, I Really Do” – Jim Ross On Tommaso Ciampa Potentially Signing With AEW
JR went on to explain that Tommaso Ciampa is a star who can have great matches with anyone, and thinks he will join AEW sooner rather than later.
“So I think it seems to me, Conrad and I got said I got nothing to base this on, other than my gut instincts that he will be on the AEW roster sooner than later, because he can have great matches with anybody. And I like his work. He’s solid. He didn’t worry about breaking an egg. He’s a tough kid. So I hope that we get him. I really do.”
Since announcing he was leaving WWE, Tommaso Ciampa has filed two new trademarks for use outside the company.
