AEW commentator Jim Ross has revealed he endured a difficult weekend leading up to AEW Double or Nothing, including a fall at home, travel issues and ongoing health concerns.
Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, the 74-year-old said he had fallen the day before the pay-per-view while preparing to leave for the airport. Jim Ross explained that his phone was not within reach when he fell, making it difficult to get assistance and causing him to miss his scheduled flight.
“My driver was going to pick me up, and all of a sudden, I fell. I hadn’t had a fall in weeks. So I fell and busted my a** away from my phone… As a result of that, I missed my flight.”
After eventually arriving in New York, Ross said his troubles continued when his back gave out after reaching his hotel room, leaving him struggling to move throughout the weekend.
“I got in my room on Saturday night, I lay on the bed and just relaxed, well, little did I know, my back was going to go out on me. So now I’m in the hotel with my back out, and I can’t function.”
Jim Ross Still Appeared At AEW Double Or Nothing Despite Suffering A Fall The Day Before
Despite the setbacks, Jim Ross still appeared at Double or Nothing and provided commentary for the match between Jon Moxley and Kyle O’Reilly. However, he admitted he was disappointed to only call one bout and said he would have discussed the situation with Tony Khan had he known in advance.
Ross returned home on Monday and said he remains sore following the fall. He also revealed he is seeking medical help for weakness in his legs, which he believes contributed to the incident.
While acknowledging he perhaps should have stayed home, Ross said his passion for professional wrestling ultimately convinced him to make the trip.
“I like working, and I love pro wrestling,” Ross said.
