Jim Ross does not believe Mick Foley is likely to wrestle a full match in AEW despite Foley’s upcoming appearance at Double or Nothing this weekend.
Mick Foley is scheduled to appear alongside Renee Paquette on the Buy In pre-show, sparking speculation about whether his involvement with AEW could extend beyond a one-off appearance. Speaking on Grilling JR, Jim Ross discussed AEW’s lighter working schedule and explained that it gives talent significant flexibility in how involved they want to be with the company.
“One or two max days a week,” Ross said of AEW’s workload. “So that’s a real perk.”
Ross admitted he was unsure whether Foley had any interest in taking on a larger role in AEW, but suggested the schedule would make that possible if he wanted it. The conversation later shifted toward the possibility of Foley wrestling again, something Ross appeared skeptical about despite believing Foley could still contribute physically in smaller moments.
“I could see him throwing a few punches or getting somebody in the Mandible Claw,” Ross explained. “Stuff like that. But him working a complete match? I find that to be doubtful.”
Jim Ross Believes While Mick Foley Won’t Have A Match In AEW, He Will Get Physically Involved
Jim Ross added that he still expects AEW to eventually involve Foley in some form of physical angle if he remains around the company, although he stressed the WWE Hall of Famer would need to be used carefully.
“You’ve got to treat Mick very, very special,” Ross said. “Put him in situations that he can pull off, that he’s good at.”
Foley’s appearance at Double or Nothing marks his first official involvement with AEW. There has been no confirmation yet regarding whether his appearance is a one-time deal or the beginning of a longer-term relationship with the promotion.
