WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett has opened up about the unexpected friendship Taylor Swift formed with his family during one of the most difficult periods of his family’s life.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jeff Jarrett reflected on how the global music superstar supported his family while his first wife, Jill, was battling cancer, and how that relationship continued after her passing.
Jarrett explained that Swift’s family had moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee, where she attended the same high school as his daughters. Around Christmas, while she was still an up-and-coming artist, a mutual friend suggested she visit the Jarrett family.
“My first wife, Jill, had gotten really sick,” Jarrett recalled. “A friend of a friend asked her to come over and play for the girls and my wife.”
What was expected to be a brief visit turned into a much longer performance that left a lasting impression on the family.
“Taylor just kept playing. I’ve said this, it turned into a couple-hour concert. She played everything, but that’s when the girls and her bonded.”
Jeff Jarrett Said That Taylor Swift Remained In Contact Following His Wife’s Passing
Jeff Jarrett revealed that after Jill passed away a few months later, Swift remained in contact and continued spending time with his daughters.
“He would regularly call and ask, ‘Hey, what are the girls doing this afternoon? I’d like to come over and make cookies. I’d like to just spend time with them.'”
The AEW star also addressed the long-standing story that Swift worked as his children’s babysitter, making it clear that was never the case.
“She just became what you call a family friend, so I can officially say she’s never been on the Jarrett payroll. She never had a paid gig as a babysitter, but very, very good to the girls.”
