Jeff Jarrett believes there is one modern-day figure who comes closest to matching the legacy of the late “Mean” Gene Okerlund, and in his view, that person is Jeremy Borash.
Speaking on his My World with Jeff Jarrett podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer praised Borash’s versatility and impact behind the scenes, comparing his skill set to that of the legendary interviewer and broadcaster. Jarrett said Okerlund’s greatness was never limited to what fans saw on camera, and that same quality is what separates Borash from others in the industry.
“You can’t really put your finger on why Gene was so good,” Jarrett said. “He could do your promo, his promo, the talent’s promo, he could sell anything. That’s what makes Jeremy so special. He’s a student of the game, and he’s worn so many hats over the years.”
Borash first gained prominence during WCW’s final years as the voice behind WCW Live, later becoming a key figure in TNA Wrestling after joining the company alongside Jarrett in 2002. Over the years, he worked in numerous roles, including announcer, producer, writer and on-screen personality, eventually serving as lead play-by-play commentator before stepping into a backstage leadership role.
Today, Borash works behind the scenes in WWE, where he has become a trusted creative figure.
How Long Has Jeff Jarrett Been With AEW?
Jeff Jarrett has been part of All Elite Wrestling since late 2022, first appearing on AEW television in November of that year. He initially joined the company in an on-screen role alongside Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt, while also taking on behind-the-scenes responsibilities.
Since then, Jarrett has served in a dual capacity as both an on-screen performer and a member of AEW’s management team, working in talent relations and live event operations. His role has continued to evolve, making him one of the more influential behind-the-scenes figures in the company.
