Jeff Jarrett has addressed speculation surrounding Brian “Road Dogg” James following his recent WWE departure, offering a measured response that leaves the door open for a potential AEW move.
James stepped down from his role as co-lead writer of SmackDown earlier this month, with no confirmed next step, prompting immediate discussion of a possible transition to AEW, where Jarrett is currently signed.
Speaking on his My World podcast, Jarrett stopped short of confirming anything but did not dismiss the idea.
“Never say never.”
Jarrett said, a familiar phrase in wrestling that often suggests possibilities remain under consideration. Jarrett went on to highlight what he believes James could bring to any promotion, pointing to his deep understanding of the fundamentals of professional wrestling.
“Brian, in my opinion, has always had a unique style of creativity… he understands the wrestling part, born and raised in Bob Armstrong territory days, the nuts and bolts of a match, finishes, comebacks, all that kind of basic as far as a match producer.”
Jeff Jarrett Believes Road Dogg’s Creative Skills Would Be Useful In AEW
While Jeff Jarrett made it clear he is not involved in hiring decisions, he emphasised that James’ skill set would make him a valuable addition anywhere. He noted that beyond match structure, James has a strong ability to connect with audiences and develop memorable characters.
Jarrett also referenced James’ ability to create catchphrases that resonate with fans, describing them as both engaging and commercially valuable.
Outside of wrestling, James is reportedly set to appear at a number of conventions in the coming months. That schedule is believed to have played a role in his WWE exit, with at least one request previously denied.
At this stage, there is no confirmation that AEW will make a move, and reports indicate that James has not yet been contacted by AEW President Tony Khan. For now, his next step remains unclear, though speculation continues to grow.
