Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL claimed many details about the infamous “Plane Ride from Hell” including Curt ‘Mr. Perfect’ Hennig’s involvement.
During the infamous flight on May 5, 2002, WWE talent and staff were flying back to the United States from England after the Insurrextion pay-per-view. With an open bar at their disposal, the bahaviour of the talent allegedly grew quickly out of control.
Some of the alleged incidents were:
Ric Flair was accused to exposing himself to a flight attendant.
Brock Lesnar and Curt Hennig supposedly began wrestling on the plane and had to be separated.
It was reported that Michael Hayes and Bradshaw got into a fight.
At the end of it all, Hennig and Scott Hall were let go by the company although it isn’t quite clear if that was because of what happened on the flight or not. Two female flight attendants sued the WWE over the alleged misconduct. The WWE settled out of court.
According to JBL, Hennig was spiking people’s drinks on the flight as well.
“I saw it, yes. Yeah, absolutely, Plane Ride from Hell. Hennig gimmicked Jim Ross and he gimmicked Gerald] Brisco. JR was passed out a lot of the flight because Curt had stuck the gimmick in his drink. Then, Gerry Brisco, he got Brisco, as well… It was just a matter of guys would get gimmicked and it’d just knock you out,” he claimed.
JBL maintained it was considered a joke back in the day.
“Again, you’re drugging people, it’s not good, but that’s what guys did. Guys would be like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve been gimmicked’ and they’d just laugh about it. You almost blamed yourself, because you’d think, ‘I didn’t take care of my beer bottle.'”
JBL also claimed that it happened to him while at a bar in New Orleans with WWE talent.
