Janel Grant has made her first public appearance since suffering a serious accident that resulted in her being hospitalised.
The former WWE employee was recently presented with the 2026 Advocacy in Action Award by the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence. Janel Grant later reflected on the appearance in a two-part Instagram post, sharing both her written thoughts and footage of her speech at the event. She revealed that she is continuing to recover from injuries suffered in the accident, including a concussion.
“The ability to think, feel and read while I’m still healing injuries, especially this humdinger of a concussion, felt like swimming against the tide,” Grant wrote.
Grant also revealed that the event marked only the seventh time she had been outside during 2026.
“Every emotion hit me at once while I took in the energy of a room full of people,” she said. “This was the 7th time I’ve been outside this year.”
Janel Grant Reflects On Recovery Following Accident
Janel Grant said the appearance also brought home the seriousness of the accident and how close she had come to losing her life.
“I was overwhelmed by the realization that I almost died, which meant this moment – this speech – was almost given by someone else in my memory,” she wrote. “To summarise my state of being in one word: GRATEFUL.”
Grant thanked those who have supported her throughout her recovery and described her remarks as a tribute to the community that she said changed and saved her life.
“Thank goodness for the people in that room. You can count on them. They are the presence that helps, cares, and supports people. They helped me,” Grant said.
She added that she remained standing for approximately an hour following her remarks before exhaustion set in and she needed to sit down.
“After the remarks concluded, I remained standing for about an hour. It’s been a long time since I’ve done that,” Grant said.
Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE and John Laurinaitis in January 2024, accusing McMahon of sexual assault, sex trafficking and physical and emotional abuse. McMahon has denied the allegations. McMahon subsequently resigned from his positions with WWE parent company TKO in January 2024.
