Jake Roberts has reflected on his rivalry with Randy Savage in WWE, describing the late Hall of Famer as unpredictable but hugely talented.
Speaking to WrestlingInc.com in 2012, Jake Roberts was candid about his experiences working with Randy Savage, calling him “a psychotic son of a b**ch” while stressing that the comment came from a place of respect and admiration. Roberts said Savage’s intensity made matches challenging at times, but also elevated their work together.
Roberts explained that he developed a strategy to manage Savage’s energy early in bouts, noting that leaning on him physically helped slow the pace and bring structure to the match.
“You had to ground him,” Roberts said. “What I’d do is go out and lean on him during the early part of the match until he got tired. Then, once he got tired, he was much more sensible in terms of what we were doing.”
Despite Savage’s unpredictable nature, Roberts made clear he held great affection for him and considered him one of the most gifted performers he had ever shared a ring with.
