WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts has shared his thoughts on WWE’s current product, admitting the company’s present-day style isn’t necessarily to his taste.
Jake Roberts discussed WWE during a recent appearance on The Mick & Kenny Show, where he was asked to assess the company’s current programming. While Roberts made it clear that he respects the work being done, he admitted that it does not represent the style of professional wrestling he personally prefers.
“That would get me in trouble,” Roberts said. “I don’t; it’s not my flavour, okay? It’s not my flavour. I appreciate what they’re doing, but it’s not the flavour I like.”
The WWE Hall of Famer did not elaborate on specific elements of the current product that he dislikes, instead keeping his criticism measured while acknowledging the company’s approach.
Jake Roberts Names Randy Orton As Dream WWE Opponent
During the same interview, Jake Roberts was also asked which current WWE star he would most like to have faced during his career. Roberts immediately named Randy Orton, whose long-running Viper character has drawn comparisons to Roberts’ own use of snake imagery throughout his career.
“Randy Orton. Really wanted to fight The Viper,” Roberts said.
However, the 71-year-old acknowledged that the opportunity for such a match has passed.
“I think I’m a little past [my] time.”
Roberts enjoyed several runs with WWE during his in-ring career and became one of the company’s most recognisable performers during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014. While Roberts remains respectful of WWE’s current direction, his comments make clear that the modern product differs from the type of professional wrestling he personally enjoys.
