Could we have another Duane “Gillberg” Gill on our hands? Jade Cargill, the current WWE Women’s Champion, recently celebrated a milestone. She has held the title for over 98+ days.
The thing is, since defeating Tiffany Stratton on Saturday Night’s Main Event she has yet to defend the title on any PLE or televised event. She has had four matches on Smackdown since that time but the title was never on the line in any of those matches.
She has defended the title though…just at house shows which never figure into the current angles and rarely recognized as canon in WWE. She has defended it five times at those shows defeating Michin twice, Bayley twice and B-Fab once.
Gillberg won the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship on November 17, 1998 and held it until February 13, 2000, a reign of around 15 months. He went about 435 days between televised title defenses during that reign and only had 16 title matches in all.
Cargill has had 78 matches since joining WWE in 2023. In her career though, she has won 120 matches, lost 20 and drew twice.
Cargill is currently in a loose feud with Jordynne Grace but nothing has really ignited just yet.
Speaking on The Collection With Brad Gilmore podcast, Cargill talked about the advice Triple H gave her after winning the title.
“He wasn’t there that day but that following Friday he was just telling me how proud he was of me and how much I’ve grown in this company and that the hard work is just starting. So, he was just proud of me, told me that, you know, I worked so hard to get here, but now the hard work really starts.”
