For Jack Perry, winning the AEW National Championship was the culmination of a dream.
At AEW Revolution, Jack Perry overcame 20 other men to capture the National Championship for the first time. The action-packed Blackjack Battle Royal came down to Perry and Ricochet, with Perry reversing a Death Valley Driver into a Poisonrana to eliminate the inaugural champion.
In an AEW Digital exclusive after the show, Perry explained how the title win “checked a lot of boxes” for him.
“I couldn’t be happier right now, because that checked a lot of boxes for me. That was revenge for my best friend. That was the end of my quest for the National Championship, and that was something that I’ve been dreaming about for a long, long time.
Continuing, the star recalled visiting the Crypto.com Arena (formerly the Staples Centre) with his late father, actor Luke Perry.
“I have been to this building in years and years since I was a little kid and I used to come here and watch wrestling, and it was bittersweet today because I thought about the one person that I wish could be here with me and who could see it, and he couldn’t. But I don’t know, who knows the way this shit works. Hopefully you can see this from somewhere.
“But I got to share this with my family, my mom, my sister, my best friends, all the people of Los Angeles, and it’s not been the golden road that I thought it once might be, but I wouldn’t change a thing because I’m here today. I’ve got an injured dinosaur, got a badass bus, and I’ve got the National Championship. So to me, it sounds like we need to go on a National Tour. See you there.”
"That was revenge for my best friend. … And that was something that I've been dreaming about for a long, long time."
