Iyo Sky has posted an update after she hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since Crown Jewel last month.
Iyo Sky posted to Instagram yesterday, letting fans know that she is “enjoying her brief Tokyo” life as she has been having a break from wrestling and enjoying time in her home country of Japan.
Sky last wrestled for WWE at Crown Jewel on October 11, where she teamed with Rhea Ripley to defeat Asuka and Kairi Sane. She then went on WWE’s eastern house show tour, wrestling in Australia on October 15, and then in Japan on October 17 and 18. Sky then stayed in Japan to compete at the Marigold Grand Destiny event on Octber 26, where she defeated Mayu Iwatani in the main event of the show, a match that was highly acclaimed and got a four and a half star rating from Dave Meltzer.
It has not been confirmed when Sky will be back from her break in Japan.
How Long Has Iyo Sky Been With WWE?
Iyo Sky has been with the WWE since 2017, when she was offered a contract after participating in a tryout at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Her debut came in the 2018 Mae Young Classic tournament, and she would go on to compete in the tournament final, but was defeated by Toni Storm.
Sky then joined the NXT brand and wrestled under the name Io Shirai and quickly became a top star in the developmental women’s division, capturing the NXT Women’s Title at TakeOver: In Your House on June 7, 2020, and the NXT Women’s Tag Team Title with Zoey Stark at The Great American Bash on July 6, 2021. Sky suffered an injury in June 2022.
Sky returned in July 2022 and began working under the Iyo Sky name as she joined the main roster by returning from injury at SummerSlam. Sky has since gone on to become a major player in the main roster women’s division, having captured the WWE Women’s and Women’s World Championships once, and the Women’s Tag Team Championship twice with Dakota Kai.
