An injured former AEW World Champion is edging closer to their return, with a new report suggesting they could be back in the ring very soon.
A report from Fightful Select has suggested that Swerve Strickland may have almost fully recovered from his injury and be ready to return to AEW TV quite soon. Strickland was taken off TV in August as he needed to undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus injury that he had apparently been dealing with since his WWE days.
Fightful reported that Strickland’s rehabilitation following surgery is going well and that he could be preparing for a “winter return” if his recovery continues to go well. This could mean we could see Strickland back in an AEW ring in time for Full Gear on November 22, or for Worlds End on December 27.
Strickland has been keeping busy during his recovery, as he recently posted a photo of himself alongside Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon in a recording studio, hinting at a potential music project being in the works for the near future.
When Did Swerve Strickland Win The AEW World Title?
Swerve Strickland won the AEW World Championship at the 2024 edition of Dynasty, defeating Samoa Joe in the main event to capture the title. Strickland went on to defend the title seven times, defeating opponents such as Claudio Castagnoli, Christian Cage, and Will Ospreay.
Strickland lost the title at All In 2024 in a career vs. title match against Bryan Danielson. The match with Danielson is widely considered by fans and critics to be Strickland’s best match to date, and even got a five and one quarter star rating from Dave Meltzer.
