Ilja Dragunov is not worried about being overlooked in AEW.
At WrestleDream, Ilja Dragunov made his AEW debut to a huge audience reaction. The Mad Dragon isn’t wasting his time getting to work, as on the October 21st edition of Dynamite, he will make his in-ring debut for the company against ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey.
Dragunov will be looking to make an impact on the show, as AEW has a stacked roster that includes some of the best performers in pro wrestling. However, he is not worried about standing out from the pack.
During an appearance on TMZ Inside The Ring, Dragunov said he has no fear about how impressive the AEW roster is, and is confident he won’t be overlooked.
“I didn’t consider how stacked the roster is because it’s a fear I don’t have. I was always betting on myself. I bet on myself when I left WWE. I’m betting on myself still, and I’m betting on what my gut is telling me and the way the people, the company introduced me, I think it speaks for itself that I stick out from all the rest in that roster.
“People who stick out and are not like anybody else, you put the objective on them and only if you are like everybody else, or try to be like everybody else, which is also an unfortunate thing happening nowadays, unfortunately, then you get overlooked. I haven’t been overlooked once in my 14 years of career.”
Ilja Dragunov Responds To MJF Insults
After seeing Ilja Dragunov make his AEW debut, MJF insulted the star on social media, calling him a “Russian/German loser.” While Dragunov had nothing to say in response during a recent interview, he did hint that he would get his revenge more physically when he meets MJF in the ring.
