Gunther is still expected to play a major role at WrestleMania 42 despite his recent absence from WWE television, according to a new report.
WrestleVotes Radio, via Fightful Select, notes that internal belief within WWE remains strong that the former World Heavyweight Champion will feature prominently at the event. One source reportedly indicated that leaving Gunther off the show would not benefit anyone involved.
Gunther has not appeared on WWE programming since unmasking Dragon Lee in a segment that drew significant attention. His absence has raised questions about his WrestleMania status, but plans for his involvement remain in place.
His originally planned opponent, Rey Mysterio, is currently dealing with a rib injury, which has complicated the situation. As a result, Gunther’s match and opponent for WrestleMania 42 have yet to be finalised.
Gunther’s Dominant WWE Run
Gunther has established himself as one of WWE’s top stars in recent years, highlighted by a record-setting 666-day Intercontinental Championship reign before moving into the main event scene. He has since held the World Heavyweight Championship twice and remains a key figure on Raw.
With WrestleMania approaching, WWE appears intent on ensuring Gunther has a significant role, even if the details are still being worked out. WrestleMania 42 takes place on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
