Gunther has already built an impressive WrestleMania resume, but the former World Heavyweight Champion still has a few dream opponents he wishes he could have faced on WWE’s biggest stage.
Appearing on No-Contest Wrestling (quotes courtesy of wrestlinginc.com), The Ring General was asked which retired stars he would have liked to share the ring with at WrestleMania. Gunther named several WWE legends, including Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Shawn Michaels, and The Undertaker, and also mentioned Bryan Danielson.
“For personal entertainment reasons, I would think Kurt Angle,” Gunther said. “I think Eddie Guerrero. I think Shawn Michaels, he always suffered in a very dramatic way. I think that would be a good fit. I’d take Daniel Bryan, and you know what? Let’s do The Undertaker.”
The Austrian star has already been involved in several highly acclaimed WrestleMania matches during his WWE career, including his Triple Threat clash with Drew McIntyre and Sheamus, his Intercontinental Championship loss to Sami Zayn, and this year’s encounter with Seth Rollins.
A Number Of Gunther’s Dream WrestleMania Opponents Have Had High Praise For The Ring General
Several of the legends Gunther mentioned have spoken highly of him in the past. Kurt Angle has previously compared the Austrian star’s in-ring ability to Eddie Guerrero’s, while The Undertaker once admitted that The Ring General would be one of the few wrestlers capable of tempting him out of retirement for one final match.
Of the names listed, Bryan Danielson is the only one to have actually faced Gunther. The two wrestlers shared a ring at a wXw event in Germany in 2008, years before either man reached the heights of their respective careers.
