The Slam family has lost one of our most talented and season contributors.
It is with heavy hearts that we report renown wrestling photographer, historian and our friend George Tahinos has passed away.
His family posted an announcement on his Facebook page:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden loss of our dear cousin, George Tahinos, on Sunday, Nov. 9 as the result of a fatal cardiac incident. George was predeceased by his parents, George and Pauline. He grew up in Wayne, NJ and was a 1980 graduate of Wayne Valley High School.
From an early age, George was an avid collector of sports memorabilia and a skilled photographer, which became his life’s work with the professional wrestling community. In his spare time, he was an enthusiastic New Jersey Devil’s fan and a talented amateur bowler. He was a regular at the Hollywood Bowl in Oakland, NJ, where he served as treasurer of the league.
While in recent years George had unfortunately become estranged from his immediate family, we know he had many friends and work associates who will mourn his loss. Please join us here in sharing your own memories of George, and please share the information of his passing to others who may not visit this page.
Details of a memorial for George, along with a Go Fund Me Page, will be posted here as soon as arrangements are finalized.”
George Tahinos has been shooting wrestling for decades for every promotion imaginable but some of his best work was when he faithfully covered ECW. He was based in New Jersey but traveled all over shooting in venues both big and small documenting wrestling’s history with his work.
We will miss his incredible contributions but more importantly we will miss the man that he was. Although he always spoke his mind and you always knew where you stood with George, he was kind, understanding and a patient man who took pride in his work and his relationships, bonds with people. He was one of the people who made Slam what it is today. Without him and his incredible work both past and present Slam wouldn’t have been able to tell our stories the way in which we have for so long. His photos made the work of our writers shine.
Fans, friends and colleagues have posted their tributes today:
George Tahinos was a talented photographer with a keen eye and a great work ethic. We were always delighted to include his pictures in our magazines, and we will, above all, miss seeing him at shows all across the tri-state area. Rest well, friend. https://t.co/4784gmRZeK

Sad to hear of the passing of wrestling photographer and friend, George Tahinos.
Myself, George, BlackJack Brown, Bob M & @Starshot9 would always go to the Oregon Diner whenever I was at the ECW Arena.
George loved to bowl and I hope he’s bowling in Heaven right now.
RIP 🙏🏽

RIP to George Tahinos. He was an OG photographer from back in the ECW days and earlier TNA days. He was one of my wrestling photog uncles with him and Bob Mulrenin when I was getting started. Rest in Power brother

Really saddened to hear about the passing of George Tahinos.
Used so many of his pics in ECW programs. If you’ve seen anything with wrestling pictures since the 90s, you’ve seen George’s work. The best.
Deepest condolences to his friends and family.
