The AEW TV debut of former WWE Tag Team Champions did not go as well as they probably would have hoped.
The AEW television debut of former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The IInspiration did not go the way they had hoped. Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay made their first appearance on AEW Dynamite during Wednesday night’s show in El Paso, Texas, stepping into the ring against The Brawling Birds, the undefeated duo of Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter.
The match proved short-lived as Lee and McKay tried to start off in their usual fashion by asking for their entrance music to be played a second time so they could continue dancing. The moment was cut short when Windsor and Hayter attacked them from behind to begin the match.
Once the bell rang, the contest lasted less than 90 seconds. Windsor and Hayter quickly took control and finished the match with their Two Birds One Stone double team move, a manoeuvre reminiscent of the Hart Attack.
The loss marked a difficult start for the team on AEW television, despite their decorated tag-team history.
Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The IInspiration’s AEW Career So Far
Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay previously held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship during their time with WWE and later captured the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship after leaving the company.
The duo first appeared in AEW during the promotion’s two-night tour of Australia last month. Their initial appearance came at the non-televised House Rules event, where they defeated two local competitors.
They then made their first on-screen AEW appearance on the February 28 episode of Collision, delivering a pre-taped promo that called out Windsor and Hayter and set the stage for Wednesday’s match.
Prior to joining AEW, Lee and McKay wrapped up their most recent run in TNA Wrestling in January. Their reign as Knockouts Tag Team Champions ended when they dropped the titles to The Elegance Brand.
Despite the disappointing start on Dynamite, the team’s schedule remains busy. Lee and McKay are signed to multi-year contracts with AEW and are also set to travel to Japan later this month to challenge for the TJPW Princess Tag Team Championship.
