A former WWE star has revisited one of the most controversial and widely viewed segments of their career, opening up about the infamous wardrobe malfunction angle that sparked major fan reaction.
Speaking in an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, former WWE star Eva Marie discussed a range of topics, including her time on Total Divas, changing her hair colour for television, and her early struggles adjusting to life on the main roster.
During the conversation, Marie also addressed her widely discussed wardrobe malfunction storyline. At the time, her character was repeatedly advertised for an in-ring debut, only for it to be delayed each week due to various excuses. Early ideas reportedly included traffic issues or minor injuries before the creative team landed on the malfunction angle.
While she could not recall exactly who suggested the idea, Marie said she agreed to it without hesitation.
“I can’t remember who exactly thought of that idea, but it was pitched to me,” she said. “I’m obviously easy, I really am, especially because I’m a bad guy as is. I removed really quickly being the hero or being the one that doesn’t look silly. Sometimes some superstars have a really hard time with being the butt of the joke or not being the man. I kind of let that go, because it was like, it’s fine, here we are, and it worked. People really did hate me.”
How Did Eva Marie Say The WWE Fans Reacted To The Segment?
Eva Marie acknowledged the intense reaction from WWE fans, noting that the storyline generated significant heat for her character. She also revealed that executing the segment live on television came with added pressure, as the production team needed to ensure everything went according to plan.
“But the wardrobe one was gnarly, because it’s live television,” she said. “So to make it realistic, we had to do a run through with it, because the last thing that we needed was me actually dropping my top. So cameramen were paranoid, freaking out, so I was securely taped, but it came off pretty good.”
The segment remains one of WWE’s most viewed clips online, amassing more than 47 million views on YouTube.
