One recently released WWE talent has revealed that frustration and a social media outburst ultimately led to their departure from the company.
Former WWE star Luke Menzies has opened up about the circumstances that led to his release from the company earlier this year. Menzies, who previously competed on WWE television as Ridge Holland, discussed the situation during an appearance on The Mike Rand Show. The former WWE NXT competitor admitted that frustration and personal struggles played a role in the public comments that ultimately violated WWE policy.
According to Menzies, he was not in the right mental state at the time and used social media as an outlet for those frustrations, something he now regrets.
“Yeah, just pure frustration for myself,” Menzies said. “I was going through a little bit of issues, some mental issues. I wasn’t in a good place. I’d advise any young wrestler to stay off Twitter, stay off social media. Don’t vent on social media.”
Menzies acknowledged that his decision to publicly criticise the company ultimately led to the termination of his contract. He accepted responsibility for the situation, stating that WWE made the correct decision based on its policies.
“I went online and disparaged the company, right or wrong,” he explained. “In the company’s eyes, it was wrong and they took the decision to terminate my contract fairly. It’s my responsibility and I’ll take full ownership.”
The release came during a period when Menzies felt his career had stalled while working in NXT. In an effort to refresh his character, he had recently returned to a rugby-inspired gimmick and was attempting to rebuild momentum.
Around the same time, he appeared in a TNA match against Mike Santana as part of the working relationship between WWE and the promotion.
Menzies also believes that injuries may have influenced the company’s decision. He pointed to a match with Moose in which he was hurt, suggesting that WWE may have evaluated his injury history when determining his long-term value.
Luke Menzies Addresses The GoFundMe Controversy Following His WWE Release
In addition to addressing his release, Luke Menzies also spoke about a controversial GoFundMe campaign that surfaced online after his departure from WWE. He clarified that the fundraiser was not something he personally organised. Instead, it was created by a concerned family member overseas without his knowledge.
“The GoFundMe was set up behind my back by a family member who was concerned,” Menzies said. “They were just trying to help. It all came from someone overseas trying to do the right thing.”
While the situation created confusion online, Menzies said the fundraiser ultimately helped his family during a difficult period. However, he admitted he was uncomfortable with how the situation unfolded publicly.
“It wasn’t something I wanted to happen,” he explained. “The funds that came from it helped us get through a real sticky patch, so I’m grateful. But it wasn’t something I was truly behind.”
Menzies’ comments provide a clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding his exit from WWE, as he now looks ahead to the next chapter of his wrestling career.
