A former world champion’s latest run with TNA Wrestling has come to an end after the promotion confirmed the departure of one of its longest-serving stars.
TNA announced on Wednesday that it had reached terms for Eric Young‘s release, with the decision taking effect immediately. In a statement, the promotion thanked the two-time World Champion for his contributions over the years.
“TNA Wrestling has come to terms on the release of Eric Young, effective immediately. EY has had a legendary TNA career, including twice as TNA World Champion. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
According to Fightful Select, Young requested his release from the company. The report also states that WWE sources expect the 46-year-old to return to the company, noting that he has maintained a strong relationship with WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H and that the door has remained open for a future comeback.
Former TNA Star Eric Young Joined WWE In 2016 Before Being Released In 2020
Eric Young joined WWE in 2016 and was released as part of the company’s roster cuts on April 15, 2020, shortly after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. He returned to Impact Wrestling later that year before briefly re-signing with WWE in late 2022. However, he never made a televised appearance during that stint and returned to Impact in the summer of 2023.
One of the most recognisable names in the company’s history, Young first debuted with the promotion as a member of Team Canada in early 2004. Across multiple runs with the company, he established himself as one of its most decorated veterans, capturing the TNA World Championship twice and becoming a cornerstone of the promotion for more than two decades.
