A mysterious figure made a surprise appearance at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku event, attacking the reigning NJPW World Television Champion moments after his latest defence.
That figure was revealed to be SANADA, marking his return following an extended absence. The moment came after Konosuke Takeshita defeated Chase Owens in the opening match. A suited individual, previously seen at Sakura Genesis, entered the ring before applying the Skull End and leaving Takeshita laid out. SANADA revealed himself as the mysterious figure, then exited with the pouch containing the Television Championship, signalling clear intent.

SANADA’s NJPW Wrestling Dontaku Was Uncertain After His Leave Of Absence Following New Year Dash
The return at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku follows months of uncertainty surrounding SANADA’s status. At New Year Dash on January 5, he appeared with a guitar bearing the message “goodbye NJPW”, before the company later confirmed he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence.
A former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, SANADA rose to the top of the promotion by defeating Kazuchika Okada at Sakura Genesis 2023. He has since been part of several factions, including Los Ingobernables de Japon, Just 5 Guys, Bullet Club War Dogs, and House of Torture.
