A former AEW World Champion may be heading back to the company sooner than expected.
According to Fightful Select, MJF has been factored into creative plans for the December 27 World’s End pay-per-view in Chicago as of Thanksgiving week. MJF has been absent from AEW programming since All Out, where he lost to Mark Briscoe in a thumbtacks and tables match.
The report arrives as AEW prepares to crown a new winner of the Dynamite Diamond Ring, a prize MJF has held every year since its introduction in 2019. Next week’s Dynamite will feature the annual Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royal in Manchester, England, with the final two competitors advancing to the Dynamite Diamond Ring Final the following week. The winner will also receive a World Championship match on the January 14 edition of Dynamite.
Before leaving to film Violent Night 2, MJF cut a promo making it clear he intended to pursue “Hangman” Adam Page, noting he still held his guaranteed World Championship contract earned at All In this past summer. Page, however, lost the title to Samoa Joe at Full Gear last month.
When Did MJF Win The AEW World Championship?
MJF won the AEW World Championship on November 19, 2022, at the Full Gear PPV from Jon Moxley, who won the vacated title at that year’s Dynamite Grand Slam after CM Punk was stripped of the title after getting into an altercation at the All Out post-show media scrum.
MJF currently holds the record for the longest reign with the title at 406 days in his single run with the belt. Jon Moxley has the record-longest combined days with 620 across four reigns.
