A former AEW Champion has broken the news that they will require another surgery, further delaying their road to recovery.
Former AEW FTW Champion Brian Cage, who is currently sidelined with a torn quadriceps injury he picked up at an independent show back in April, has announced that he needs another knee surgery after already having one to fix his injury earlier in the year.
Cage posted the news to Instagram and stated that due to complications from his earlier surgery, another surgery will be necessary to further repair the injury. Cage wrote:
“There is an issue on the operation I had on my right knee. I was fighting an uphill battle that no amount of therapy, modalities, stem cells, peptides, etc we’re going to fix. I have to go back under the knife for them to try to fix or correct the situation.”
Cage further stated that he is “upset and depressed” about the news, but is committed to recovering from his injury and returning to the ring once more.
How Long Has Brian Cage Been With AEW?
Brian Cage joined AEW in January 2020 and made his debut at Double or Nothing on May 23 that year as a surprise entrant in the Casino Ladder Match. Cage would win the Ladder match and would challenge for the AEW World Title at Fight for the Fallen, but was unable to defeat then-champion Jon Moxley as his manager, Taz, threw in the towel to end the match.
Taz crowned Cage FTW Champion, a title Taz created in his ECW days, on July 2, 2020, after the title had been inactive since the ECW Living Dangerously pay-per-view in March 1999. Cage held the FTW Title for 377 days before losing it to Ricky Starks at Dynamite: Fyter Fest on July 14, 2021.
