A former AEW champion has reportedly been forced out of action after undergoing an undisclosed medical procedure.
According to Fightful Select, former TBS Champion Maya World is currently unable to wrestle after undergoing the procedure within the past week.
The exact nature of the procedure was not disclosed, although the report noted that there is hope World can return to action soon. The 24-year-old was also forced to withdraw from an independent wrestling appearance this past weekend. World most recently competed on the September 9 Rebel Heart edition of Dynamite in a trios match.
Maya World Sidelined From AEW Following Undisclosed Procedure
The setback comes shortly after the end of World’s first championship reign in AEW. World lost the TBS Championship to Persephone at All In last month following the surprise return of Britt Baker, who interfered in the match.
The defeat ended World’s reign after 35 days and capped off a significant summer for the rising AEW star. World also reached the final of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament against Mercedes Mone after initially entering as an injury replacement.
The Texas native made her AEW debut in July 2024, although she did not become a regular with the promotion until November of that year. World and Hyan were brought in at the last minute to replace Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize following a backstage situation involving the originally scheduled pair.
