Eric Bischoff has criticised the AEW World Championship match between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay at All In, admitting that he did not enjoy the Wembley Stadium main event.
Will Ospreay defeated Kenny Omega to capture the AEW World Championship in a physical match that left both men bloodied. While the bout received considerable praise online, Eric Bischoff was far less impressed.
Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, the former WCW executive acknowledged that fans of AEW’s wrestling style may have enjoyed the match, but said it did not appeal to his own preferences.
“I didn’t like the match at all. And I know, people are going to, ‘Bischoff’s such a hater.’ Look, for those who like the AEW style of wrestling, it was fine. You got what you wanted. You got what you paid for, and it met or exceeded your expectations, and I’m happy for you.
For me personally, subjectively, based on what I enjoy out of professional wrestling, it was like watching a Nasty Boys match. It was a hardcore, slow-paced match. And yes, it was bloody, and there were great spots, but that’s my overriding critique throughout most of the matches.”
Eric Bischoff Critical Of AEW All In Matches
Although Eric Bischoff was unimpressed by Omega and Ospreay’s match, he had considerably more praise for the entrances throughout All In.
“The entrances, by and large, ranged from really, really good to okay. The majority of them fell in the really, really good category. But the matches, they were okay, but there was nothing special. There was a lot of garbage in there. There was a lot of stuff that you could see through. Timing was off in a number of matches, and a number of them just looked sloppy,” he said.
Bischoff felt several matches on the show relied too heavily on high spots and criticised the timing of some of the action. However, he acknowledged that AEW’s audience appeared to enjoy the style being presented and pointed to the size of the Wembley crowd as evidence of the promotion’s success.
“They’re there for the high spots, and they’re getting what they paid for, which is a good thing. I’m not being critical of it. It’s a great thing. They put 50,000 asses in seats. It’s a great thing. But for me personally, the matches were just okay.”
