D’von Dudley is giving specific details about why he has accused Jim Ross of racist behaviour.
On his YouTube channel, Dudley claims the first incident was the grand opening of the WWE restaurant. The Dudley Boys were there with other WWE superstars mingling with the guests.
“WWE really rolled out the red carpet for the event. It was huge,” said D’Von.
The Dudley Boys ran into J.R.
“You guys are fitting in really well here. I like you boys. I like you boys a lot. D’Von, I am not to sure. The verdict is still out on you. I am still a little hesitant with you,” J.R. told the tag team.
Bubba saw that D’von was becoming upset so he stepped in and defended D’von as a solid worker.
“There is just something about him…He’s black. I just…don’t know. That’s my hiccup. I don’t know how I feel about that,” said J.R.
“You know what J.R., black, white, purple, brown, it doesn’t matter. He is a great individual and human being,” said Bubba.
“I am not saying he isn’t. He is black and I don’t know about that,” answered J.R.
D’von recalled being furious but also knowing anything he said or did might not only cost him his job but Bubba’s too.
“At the time, I didn’t think I would be able to fight that. I am a little fish in a big pond. I remind everyone that at the time he said that he was very drunk. He was extremely drunk and slurring his words. They say when you are drunk, the truth comes out,” said D’von.
D’von then described another incident backstage before a show in Indianapolis. Himself, Bubba, Spike Dudley, Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer were sitting and chatting.
“He comes over and says hello to everyone but me. Paul (Heyman) pretty much called him out. He said: “Why don’t you want to say hello to D’von? What’s wrong with D’von? It is because he is black?” J.R. answered: “You’re damn right! It is because he is black!”. Now, I don’t know if he got mad at Paul for calling him out and ignoring me…but that is what was said,” D’von claimed.
D’von insisted that it wasn’t like that in ECW where they all came from.
“No one is pulling the race card here. The question was asked did I ever experience racism in the WWE? I told him, not in ECW. ECW, we were a family. I will always hold a special place for ECW in my heart because none of that crap existed back then in ECW. Could it have? Sure but it didn’t. We all cared for each other. We all natured each other. We all did the right thing for each other. That was never, never an issue there.
On his recent podcast, Jim Ross denied having ever treated D’von like that.
“I never said that to D-Von Dudley and why he would conjure up that was I guess to get attention? I thought, well, maybe he’s not as happy with his post-wrestling life as Bubba because Bubba’s made a tremendous success of himself as a broadcaster and still works? So, I never said that. Some people I’m sure are going still believe it and that’s their prerogative but I’m not angry at D-Von. I’m just curious and don’t understand why he went there. Just don’t get it,” he said.
