Speaking to KJZZ14 in Utah, Drew McIntyre spoke about being a locker room leader and his cruel to be kind approach.
“I have been around 20 years….I actually debuted in WWE when I was 22. They signed me right out of university in Glasgow. I am came straight to America and straight to television and WWE with my Criminology degree. I have seen all the ups and downs. Many of the current superstars that I learned from have retired like The Undertaker and Kane,” he began.
“I have this wealth of knowledge I would love to pass along to the new generation. I will be around for years to come yet. I am in the best shape of my life. I want everyone on the show to be as good as possible and contribute to our show and if you are not adding to our show, sorry you are off the show. That is the kind of leader I am. I will kick you to the curb,” he said with a laugh.
McIntyre explained that after he was fired from WWE and was sidelined with a broken neck for eight weeks was the turning point in his life and his career. His wife told him that he couldn’t keep burning the candle at both ends. She was going to leave him if he didn’t get his act together.
“During that eight week period I really looked at myself and what I could improve. At the time, Brock Lesnar was the biggest attraction. I had to be as big as Brock Lesnar. I grew the body. I had to get better at speaking so I learned from Paul Heyman. I improved my microphone skills. Guess who I beat in the main event of WrestleMania for the World Championship? Brock Lesnar. If you visualize these things, if you work hard enough, leave no stone unturned, be accountable to yourself, screw the internet and screw everyone else and be accountable to yourself you can do anything,” he advised.
McIntyre argued he isn’t a bad guy at all even though he is scheduled to face WWE Undisputed WWE Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event this weekend.
“It is 2025. People don’t like the truth. They don’t want to hear the truth. They want to play pretend. They go on social media and use their filters. They want to bury their head in the sand. I tell the truth in the WWE and that makes me the bad guy,” he said.
