Smackdown was held in Cleveland, Ohio, so it was big deal for Johnny Gargano, as it is his hometown. For some inexplicable reason, Gargano has been working an angle where he is “planking” backstage not wrestling due to his string of bad luck including Tommaso Ciampa leaving the company. Gargano returned to the ring during Smackdown tapings this week. WWE Champion CM Punk offered him a title match and he got one. Punk eventually won. After the match, in what seemed like a goodbye address, Gargano said:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I want to say one thing. Back when I was just a fan, sitting in those stands, I vividly remember a moment where a young CM Punk had a dark match here in Cleveland, Ohio, and as a fan I remember seeing that and going: That’s CM Punk. He’s one of the best in the world. He belongs here. T be able to get in this ring in my hometown with the best in the world, with the WWE Champion, CM Punk has made his debut on SmackDown. Guys, I am here to tell you, for anyone out there in the crowd, if you have a dream, if you want to do something, if you work hard enough, you can make anything happen in this life time.”
Cheeseburger made his TNA debut on TNA Xplosion this week taking on Brian Johnson.
Jonathan Coachman has had plenty to say after being dumped from the WWE Radio line-up. Recently, he continued to slam their media scrums after events as nothing more than an extension of their angles and storylines. “I’ve been very critical of the scrums, which now they stopped altogether. They don’t even do them. Triple H doesn’t even do those anymore…I don’t think they should be doing those scrums anyway. They do them to do their own agenda, not to answer real questions…They’re going to protect their talent so much and now with WWE Radio, a lot of them are going to go on those shows and they can only ask talent so many times to do interviews or doing radio or whatever the case might be,” he said on a recent episode of Developmentally Speaking.
