Diana Hart has publicly challenged comments made by her brother Bret Hart regarding the condition of Davey Boy Smith during their classic match at SummerSlam 1992.
In a detailed Instagram post, Diana Hart criticised Bret Hart for presenting his version of events as fact, disputing long-standing claims that Dave Boy Smith was in poor physical condition during their Intercontinental Championship match at Wembley Stadium.
Diana revealed that Smith was recovering from necrotising fasciitis at the time, a serious infection she says the family has documented proof of, noting that he chose not to make the condition public.
She argued that Smith’s performance tells a different story.
“Davey’s performance shows no evidence of impairment… it reflects his professionalism, strength and focus,” she wrote.
Diana also took issue with Bret’s retelling of the match in later years, accusing him of taking full credit for the bout while downplaying Smith’s role.
She suggested Bret’s recollections may have been affected by the stroke he suffered in 2002, adding that Smith had passed away earlier that year and was never able to respond to the claims.
“The accusations began after Davey was no longer alive to respond,” she wrote.
Diana said she has previously asked Bret to stop making such comments, but claims he has continued, describing it as a pattern she has seen over time.

Widely regarded as one of WWE’s greatest matches, the SummerSlam 1992 encounter remains a defining moment in both Bret Hart and Dave Boy Smith’s careers, with the bout being regarded as one of the best SummerSlam main events of all time.
Smith was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2020, with the ceremony being held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Diana among those who accepted on his behalf.
