Dave Bautista has landed another major acting role, with the former WWE Champion confirmed to play Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming God of War television series.
The casting follows reports earlier this month linking Dave Bautista to the role. According to Variety, he will replace Ryan Hurst, who had originally been cast as Kratos but suffered a torn bicep during filming. The live-action adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game franchise is currently being filmed in Vancouver, Canada.
Amazon has already given the Prime Video series a two-season order, with both seasons being filmed back-to-back. The series will draw on the two most recent God of War games, which shifted the franchise into Norse mythology and focused heavily on the relationship between Kratos and his young son, Atreus. According to the official logline, the story will follow Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of Faye, their wife and mother.

Dave Bautista Continues Successful Hollywood Career With God Of War
The role represents another significant addition to Dave Bautista’s acting career since establishing himself in Hollywood following his time as one of WWE’s biggest stars. Bautista became widely known outside professional wrestling through his portrayal of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. He has subsequently taken roles across several major films, including Dune: Part Two.
The former six-time WWE World Champion also appeared in Amazon’s The Wrecking Crew in 2026. Bautista has several other projects in development or post-production, including Road House 2 and Highlander.
His latest role will now see him take on one of the most recognisable characters in video game history, with Kratos having served as the central character of the God of War franchise since its debut in 2005.
With production already underway and two seasons ordered, Bautista is now set to lead Prime Video’s adaptation as the franchise moves from PlayStation to live-action television.
