Darby Allin says he could “out-wrestle a lot of people” from a technical standpoint, but doesn’t think fans want to see that side of him.
Darby Allin was one of AEW’s earliest signings and quickly made a name for himself in the company with his death-defying stunts and hardcore style. This style has earned him comparisons to ECW and WWE star Spike Dudley, who was known for taking hard bumps in and out of the ring.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Allin said he doesn’t agree with the comparison, as he is “way more of a wrestlers’ wrestler” than Dudley was.
“I don’t really see it, to be honest. Because I’m like way more of a wrestler’s wrestler. I don’t feel like Spike was ever a technical wrestler. I definitely feel like I’m way more of a wrestler’s wrestler than that.”
“I Feel Like I Could Out-Wrestle A Lot Of People” – Darby Allin
The two-time TNT Champion explained that he can wrestle a more technical style, but doesn’t think it’s what his fans want to see.
“I s**t you not, I feel like I could out-wrestle a lot of people from a technical standpoint, but ain’t nobody want to see Darby Allin do a lot of technical wrestling. But when I do it’s like super fun because I feel like people always forget that I know how to do this. I got a ring at my house and I train all the time.”
Darby Allin is currently embroiled in a feud with Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors that has seen the War Dogs ambushing the star at every turn. Most recently, Allin got a measure of revenge when he attacked Kidd with his skateboard on the February 19th edition of Dynamite, costing him and Connors their match against Orange Cassidy and Tomohiro Ishii.
