The war of words between the returning Conor McGregor and UFC Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje is heating up.
Although Gaethje has bounced around from possibly retiring to continuing his career, he is curious about what will happen in the upcoming Conor McGregor, Max Holloway fight at UFC 329.
“As I’ve stated hundreds of times publicly. I would love to punch Conor McGregor in the face,” he told The Jim Rome Show.
Gaethje is well aware what a fight like that would mean.
“There’s no doubt he’s one of the biggest superstars in the sport. Fighting a guy like that obviously does great things for me financially and for my legendary status and stuff like that,” he said.
In his interview with UFC on Paramount+, McGregor had plenty to say about Gaethje in return.
“Justin’s okay. When he’s on, Justin’s okay. When he’s bad, he’s atrocious. He’s woeful. He slaps his punches a lot but he’s very, very durable and he’s unorthodox in his style,” he said.
He then added switching things up wouldn’t be out of the question.
“For sure (I can make a run at the title). I’m a 170-pound fighter now. I already held the 155-pound unified UFC world title. I’m open for business. I wish for activity. I’ve got a great fight in front of me,” he said.
