Conan O’Brien has reacted to Danhausen’s recent WWE debut, praising his journey and work ethic after years on the independent scene.
Speaking on Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, O’Brien reflected on first interviewing Danhausen in 2021, recalling how the wrestler had been travelling long distances every weekend just to perform.
“Danhausen told me that he had been grinding away for the past eight years, driving 12 hours every weekend just to be able to get up in front of people and wrestle,” O’Brien said. “This is a guy who just applied an incredible work ethic to his passion.”
O’Brien said seeing Danhausen reach WWE five years later made the moment feel full circle.
“This is proof again that if you can marry hard work to your passion, you can go places,” he said. “Massive congratulations and mad respect to Danhausen. I’m so proud of you.”
He also joked about taking a share of Danhausen’s success, given the character’s inspiration.
“Because your character is based on me, I’m getting 20%,” O’Brien said.
Danhausen Said That He Modelled His Character After Conan O’Brien
During their original interview, Danhausen explained that his persona blends O’Brien’s comedic style with elements of horror and pop culture, including references to The Simpsons. He noted that his career only began to gain traction after embracing the character.
“They cared once I switched and put on makeup and started acting goofy,” Danhausen said. “I brought a tiny airplane to the ring, and I had 300, 400 people chanting ‘hop in’ at this guy.”
O’Brien was so impressed at the time that he even pitched a potential on-screen appearance, joking about descending into the ring to save the new WWE star during a match.
“I think the crowd would go nuts,” he said.
