Cody Rhodes versus Randy Orton was moved to WrestleMania 42 following a key injury, according to a new report.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that while Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton had long been planned, the match was originally scheduled to take place after WrestleMania rather than at the event itself. The change came after Bronson Reed suffered a torn biceps, prompting WWE to adjust its plans.
As a result, Rhodes vs Orton was brought forward to WrestleMania 42, while Drew McIntyre was positioned in a separate singles match against Jacob Fatu.
Dave Meltzer States That WWE Considered Multiple Different Opponents For Cody Rhodes At Mania
Dave Meltzer also noted that WWE considered multiple options for Cody Rhodes’ opponent during the planning stages, with Drew McIntyre at one point in contention. There were discussions around adding a Hell in a Cell stipulation if that direction had been finalised.
Additionally, Rhodes vs Roman Reigns was reportedly considered for a Hell in a Cell match before Reigns was shifted into a programme with CM Punk. That decision also altered plans involving Bron Breakker.
Breakker has been sidelined since January with a hernia, though there is optimism he could return before WrestleMania if medically cleared and creative plans are in place. WrestleMania 42 is set for April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
