Cody Rhodes has confirmed he signed a new contract with WWE, saying he intends to finish his professional wrestling career with the company.
The 41-year-old made the announcement during an interview with Flagrant published on Wednesday, October 7, although he did not disclose the length or financial terms of his new agreement. Cody Rhodes appeared to suggest that the news had not previously been made public, even acknowledging that he might not have been authorised to reveal it.
“Forgive me if this is breaking news and please edit it if I’m not allowed to share, which is fine. I just re-signed with WWE, so I’ll end my wrestling career [with WWE],” Rhodes said.
The announcement follows previous comments from Rhodes indicating that his next WWE contract would be his last. Although he has not provided a timetable for his retirement, the former Undisputed WWE Champion has now reiterated his intention to remain with WWE until the end of his in-ring career.
Cody Rhodes Discusses WWE Contract And Outside Projects
Cody Rhodes also discussed how his relationship with WWE allows him to pursue opportunities outside professional wrestling, particularly in the entertainment industry. The former world champion is currently promoting the upcoming Street Fighter movie, in which he portrays Guile.
Rhodes explained that his arrangement with WWE gives him the flexibility to take time away for other projects while maintaining his connection with the company.
“Say I do have another project. Say I got two other projects, whatever it may be. I’m able to take a step away and I’m able to collaborate with WWE and I’m able to come back home,” he said.
The conversation also turned to the financial landscape of professional wrestling, with Rhodes suggesting performers now benefit from more opportunities outside WWE.
“The wrestling economy is different now because there’s other places you can go wrestle,” Rhodes explained. “The money in wrestling and sports entertainment is very good. And I feel like if you were my dad or any of these wrestlers we talked about on that list, you’d be shocked.”
While the specific terms of Rhodes’ latest agreement remain undisclosed, his comments suggest he expects WWE to remain his professional wrestling home for the rest of his career.
