Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has addressed his retirement plans and said that he plans to make his next WWE contract his last.
Cody Rhodes was a guest on a recent episode of the “ALL THE SMOKE: Unplugged” podcast and discussed topics ranging from his personal and family life and pro wrestling. When asked about his future plans in wrestling and his retirement, Rhodes said that he plans to make his next WWE contract his last one. He said:
“The next contract I sign with WWE is probably going to be my last, and finish my days with WWE.”
Rhodes rejoined WWE in 2022 after leaving AEW and is likely still under the contract he signed back then. While it’s unknown how long he signed on for, Chelsea Green, who is also a top star with the company, recently signed a new contract, and that was a five-year deal. And it is likely that Rhodes may have been brought in on a similar length contract, meaning his current deal might not expire until 2027, and if he signs another five-year extension, he will remain with WWE until 2032, at which point he will be 47 years old.
Cody Rhodes’ WWE History
Cody Rhodes first signed for WWE in 2006, working for the developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling. He made his main roster debut in 2007, losing to Randy Orton on the July 16 episode of Raw and in 2008, he would go on to form The Legacy with Ted DiBiase Jr. The Legacy disbanded in 2010, and Rhodes would join the SmackDown roster as part of the 2010 draft and Rhodes would start competing under his “Dashing” gimmick, and after suffering a legitimate broken nose and being required to wear a protective mask, he started wrestling as his “Undashing” gimmick.
Rhodes captured the Intercontinental Title in 2011 and again in 2012 before forming the Team Rhodes Scholars with Damian Sandow in 2012. The team disbanded in 2013, and Rhodes started teaming with his real-life brother Dustin Rhodes, known then as Goldust, and Cody would become Stardust, wearing a similar bodysuit and facepaint combination to his brother in 2014. Cody became frustrated with his creative direction in the company and left in 2016 to wrestle on the independent scene, and founded AEW with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega in 2019.
Rhodes would be a top star in AEW until he left the company he helped found in 2022 to rejoin WWE, and has a much more successful second run with the promotion, having captured the Undisputed WWE Title twice in just three years into his second run.
In recent news, Cody Rhodes said he considered quitting wrestling after he left WWE in 2016.
