Cody Rhodes has taken inspiration from DC Comics for his funeral plans.
Cody Rhodes is well-known as a big comic book fan, so it’s no surprise that he draws some of his inspiration from that world. Speaking on the latest edition of Grave Conversations, he revealed that one idea he’s carried over from DC Comics is his plan for his funeral.
The former WWE Champion explained that he wants his funeral to be similar to that of Sue Dibny, the wife of the Elongated Man. The ceremony took place during the 2004 Identity Crisis storyline and featured many of DC’s heroes in full costume. Rhodes wants his funeral to be similar, with wrestlers in attendance in full gear and for him to be laid to rest in his American Nightmare robe.
“[The DC Comic series] Identity Crisis has one of the greatest funeral scenes of all time because all of them showed up in gimmick, full gear.
“When my time comes, I want the wrestling world in full gimmick. Bury me in the American Nightmare Sandra Grey robe. Bury me as I was. I spent so much time giving back to pro wrestling and taking from pro wrestling and loving that I got to play a superhero. I’d like to go out a superhero.”
Cody Rhodes Took A Big Gamble With WWE Return
Recently, Cody Rhodes has reflected on the risk he took in returning to WWE in 2022. The American Nightmare says he had a “good gig” in AEW, and leaving it behind to gob ack to WWE was a gamble since he could easily have “belly flopped in the pool.” The star admitted that even talking about that period of his life brought back the anxiety he felt at the time.
