Cody Rhodes believes WWE WrestleMania 42 could deliver one of the strongest in-ring cards in the event’s history.
Speaking on Complex Graps: The Podcast, Cody Rhodes discussed the upcoming pay-per-view and said the matches currently planned could make the show one of the best “bell-to-bell” WrestleManias to date.
Rhodes noted that milestone editions of WrestleMania, such as WrestleMania 40, often carry a special sense of destiny, but he believes the strength of the wrestling on this year’s card could set it apart.
“I said something that I don’t love how it came out, I said, ‘we’re sitting on a Sleeper Mania,’” Rhodes said. “What I meant was, because a ten-year Mania, like WrestleMania 40, you feel this sense of destiny. There is something about that ten-year moment. This year, the matches, we have our main event with CM Punk and Roman Reigns. We just got to myself versus Randy Orton as the other main event.”
Rhodes pointed to several other potential matches on the card, including Stephanie Vaquer against Liv Morgan, as examples of the depth WWE could showcase during the two-night event.
“The matches that are coming together… You talked about Sami Zayn. I think you’re looking at a bell-to-bell Mania that is the best it’s been,” Rhodes said. “Good, the type of stuff I grew up on, wrestling, bell-to-bell.”
Cody Rhodes Said That The WrestleMania Grandeur Will Be On Full Display In April
While Cody Rhodes emphasised the quality of the wrestling matches, he also said WrestleMania would still deliver the spectacle and special moments fans have come to expect from WWE’s biggest event of the year.
“For people who come for all the other grandeur and the spectacle that is WrestleMania, that’s all there too,” Rhodes said, adding that several special guest appearances could also be planned for the show.
Rhodes also spoke about the atmosphere surrounding WrestleMania weekend and the importance of making the experience memorable for fans, particularly those attending their first WWE event.
“In addition to that… the community that is WWE, I always ask people at the end, ‘Is this your first show?’” Rhodes said. “So many people raise their hands, or young kids. The community that is WWE is growing up together.”
He added that spreading WrestleMania across two nights allows fans to enjoy the event without the extremely long runtimes that were common in previous years.
Finally, Rhodes highlighted several younger WWE talents he believes could have major futures in the company, including Oba Femi and Je’Von Evans. According to Rhodes, WrestleMania can serve as a platform for the next generation of stars.
“I’d watch this WrestleMania for the potentials of Je’Von Evans, for the potentials of Oba Femi… for the potentials of guys who hopefully are sitting here in this chair 10 years from now talking about main eventing at WrestleMania.”
