Cody Rhodes believes The Rock still has several matches left in him, even though the WWE legend hasn’t competed in the ring since WrestleMania 40 in 2024.
The possibility of The Rock returning for another match has remained a subject of speculation in recent years, particularly following his involvement in storylines with Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.
Although both wrestlers have discussed potential singles encounters, neither match has materialised. During an appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Rhodes was asked about the possibility of finally facing The Rock in a singles match. The former Undisputed WWE Champion admitted he doesn’t know whether the match will ever happen, but believes the 54-year-old still has more to offer as an in-ring performer.
“It’s not that I’m evading that answer. It’s that I don’t really know how to answer because I think personally he has a couple of matches probably left to do,” Rhodes said.
However, Rhodes also acknowledged that The Rock’s most recent match could serve as a fitting conclusion to his legendary wrestling career.
Cody Rhodes Addresses Potential WWE Singles Match With The Rock
Cody Rhodes pointed to The Rock’s appearance at WrestleMania 40 as an example of how the Hollywood star could potentially end his in-ring career on a high note.
“I think that personally, but I also know looking at WrestleMania 40, and another guy who he’s given all, continues to give all as part of the board, he could easily say that was a great final piece as a performer in a wrestling ring.”
Rhodes stressed that any decision regarding a potential return would ultimately rest with The Rock himself.
“That’ll be up to him. That’ll certainly be up to him if there’s more and what those matches might be. I don’t think any wrestler would ever look you in the eye and tell you they wouldn’t want a match like that.”
The Rock last competed on the opening night of WrestleMania 40 in April 2024, teaming with Roman Reigns against Rhodes and Seth Rollins. The match ended with The Rock pinning Rhodes to secure his team’s victory.
That result ensured that the following night’s Undisputed WWE Championship match between Rhodes and Reigns would take place under Bloodline Rules. Although The Rock suggested at the time that he could return for additional matches, he has not competed in the two-and-a-half years since.
He has nevertheless remained involved in WWE storylines, including further developments involving The Bloodline and Rhodes. One of his most significant appearances came at Elimination Chamber 2025, where his involvement in the storyline with Rhodes culminated in John Cena’s memorable heel turn.
Despite those appearances, Cody Rhodes and The Rock have yet to meet in a singles match.
