Cody Rhodes has finally spoken out about the persistent speculation surrounding a potential heel turn, making it clear why he has remained WWE’s top babyface despite calls for a shift.
For months, rumours have circulated about Cody Rhodes possibly embracing a villainous role, with even The Rock publicly supporting the idea. However, during an episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Rhodes offered insight into his own thinking.
“I feel right now I like the challenge of being a babyface because it seems almost impossible some nights,” Rhodes said. “It’s easier to be cooler. I really admire Logan Paul’s situation. He could fall flat on his face and it’s no big deal. He can be mad at the crowd.”
Rhodes acknowledged that being a heel can offer more creative freedom and, at times, more fun. However, he believes there is still value in portraying a traditional hero, especially for WWE’s core audience.
“I think sometimes there are elements of being a heel that are a lot of fun, whereas being a white-meat babyface, where you’re trying to be virtuous and make the right choices, that’s not always the most appealing thing by modern entertainment standards,” he said. “But when you look at our ticket-buying audience, kids and families, there’s room for it.”
He also pointed out that babyfaces come in different forms, citing stars like LA Knight and Jey Uso, but emphasised that he enjoys the challenges of his current role.
“There are different types of babyfaces like LA Knight and Jey Uso. I like the challenge of it, but that’s because it’s hard,” Rhodes added.
Did Cody Rhodes Say He’d Ever Turn Heel In WWE?
While Cody Rhodes defended his position as a fan favourite, he did not completely rule out a future turn.
“I think if we ever transition and the heel comes back out, that might be something I need in my life and don’t realise it,” he said. “Just from the sheer, ‘Let’s go out there and have fun.’”
He concluded by highlighting the pressure differences between the two roles.
“I feel there’s a lot of pressure in the babyface spot. But as a heel, it’s more like, ‘Let’s just go have some fun.’ We’ll get it when we get it. You can dictate the pace.”
