CM Punk has spoken about his desire to wrestle for WWE at an iconic Chicago outdoor sports venue.
Speaking on Barstool’s Mostly Sports podcast, CM Punk was asked what goals he still wanted to achieve in wrestling, given the fact that he’s had a massively successful career already, and Punk said there is still one goal he wants to accomplish in his home city of Chicago, and that is to wrestle for WWE in the Cubs’ home stadium Wrigley Field.
Punk said that the executives at Wrigley have expressed interest in running WWE events in the ballpark, but because the Major League Baseball fixtures don’t get released early enough, it makes it hard for WWE to secure dates in advance for the stadium. Punk said:
“They won’t release the schedule until, you know, they want to. So we can’t get a jump start and look at dates and stuff like that. Yes, Wrigley hosts concerts in the summertime and stuff like that, but they won’t give us a big enough head start to figure out dates.”
Punk said that he was secretly rooting for the LA Dodgers to win the World Series so that there is more chance of an MLB lockout in 2027, which would mean there would be no baseball taking place in 2027, and thus Wrigley Field would have a lot more free dates available for WWE to schedule in.
Has CM Punk Wrestled For WWE In Chicago?
Despite hailing from the Windy City, CM Punk has never competed inside a WWE ring in his home city. He has wrestled for Ring of Honor and AEW in Chicago, notably competing on the first episode of Collision on June 17, 2023, where he teamed with FTR’s Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood to defeat Jay White, Juice Robinson, and Samoa Joe in the main event in front of nearly 10,000 fans.
