CM Punk has explained when he would consider retiring from professional wrestling
CM Punk says he has no set timetable for retirement and plans to continue wrestling for as long as his health allows. The Undisputed WWE Champion discussed his future while appearing on WWE Radio ahead of SummerSlam, where he is scheduled to defend the title against Cody Rhodes. Punk said he occasionally reflects on his legacy but believes the decision to retire will come down to how his body feels rather than the length of his contract or the number of matches he has left.
“I do, but not much. It’s a fleeting moment, you know? Just because I know I’m much closer to the end than I am the beginning. Where that end is? Nobody knows. I don’t even know. It’s not measured in the length of a contract. It’s not measured in matches. To me, it’s honestly, it’s measured in health. It’s how I look and it’s more importantly how I feel… So I’m just going to go until the wheels fall off. We’ll see what happens.”
Punk added that he currently feels better than ever and has placed a greater emphasis on recovery than at any other point in his career.
CM Punk’s Very Successful 2026 Run In WWE
The 47-year-old has enjoyed a successful 2026, headlining WrestleMania 42 against Roman Reigns before later returning to defeat Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Looking ahead to SummerSlam, CM Punk said he is “very psyched” to face Rhodes and praised his opponent’s journey back to WWE, noting that both men left the company, spent time elsewhere, including in AEW, before returning and reaching the top of the promotion.
