While CM Punk calls himself the Best in the World, he believes that John Cena is the Greatest Of All Time.
Earlier this year, CM Punk reignited his feud with John Cena, challenging the 17-time World Champion for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The match at Night of Champions was part of Cena’s year-long retirement tour, meaning it would be the final time the pair would ever face off in the ring.
During an appearance on Mostly Sports, Punk reflected on the “kismet” of his return to WWE coming just as Cena began his final run.
“To me, it’s kind of like the universe will always put you where you need to be. So, me coming back two years ago to WWE is really kind of kismet, because now all of a sudden, John Cena is doing this retirement tour, and I just, the entire step of the way, I’ve just been fortunate to be there to witness it.
“I feel like, ‘Man, this is where I needed to be.’ Watching him gracefully bow out has been just tremendously rewarding, obviously.”
Continuing, the current World Heavyweight Champion explained why it’s right for WWE to refer to Cena as the GOAT. While admitting it’s subjective, CM Punk said Cena put in the work over two decades to earn that title.
“He’s somebody who, we’re calling him the GOAT. It’s very subjective. But in my lifetime, in my career, somebody who always led by example. Box office superstar, charismatic through the roof. Great on the mic, does all the PR. Over the last 20 years, 100% the GOAT.”
CM Punk Set For WarGames At WWE Survivor Series
At Survivor Series, CM Punk will compete in WarGames for the second time in his career. Inside the two-ring steel cage bout, Punk will team with Cody Rhodes, The Usos, and Roman Reigns to take on The Vision, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre, and Brock Lesnar.
The match was finalised on the November 17th edition of Raw when Lesnar made his surprise return during a brawl between the two teams, immediately siding with Paul Heyman’s side. This brought out Roman Reigns, who made a beeline for The Beast Incarnate, taking him down with a Superman Punch before being attacked by The Vision. The show closed with The Tribal Chief Spearing Bronson Reed, as well as NYPD officers who were trying to end the melee.
