CM Punk believes he would have been the perfect final opponent for John Cena.
John Cena‘s retirement tour hit a roadblock at Night of Champions, where CM Punk challenged him for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The match was a callback to the feud between the two in the 2010s that lasted until Punk walked out of WWE in 2014.
The match saw Punk come close to defeating Cena one more time, but in the end, the 17-time World Champion walked out with the gold after a little help from Seth Rollins and The Vision.
With Cena’s retirement coming up on December 13th, WWE is now running a tournament to determine his final opponent before he hangs up his jorts for good. During an interview on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, Punk was asked who he wants to see get that coveted spot.
After making it clear he thinks he would have been the perfect final opponent for John Cena, Punk chose the tournament favourite, Gunther, as the man he believes will win the right to challenge the legendary star.
“Perfect, probably would’ve been me. Who is the perfect opponent that is actually in the field, right now, I don’t know if it’s perfect, but it’s looking like Gunther. I’ve been in the ring with him and I know what he can do. I don’t know who else in that tournament can beat him right now.”
CM Punk names John Cena The GOAT
Recently, CM Punk made the case for John Cena being pro wrestling’s GOAT. Punk explained that Cena is a “box office superstar” who has used all the tools at his disposal to become the top star of at least the past 20 years.
