AEW star Christian Cage is currently sidelined after suffering multiple broken ribs and a collapsed lung during last month’s All Out pay-per-view.
His longtime friend and tag team partner, Adam Copeland, revealed the extent of Christian Cage’s injuries during Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite. Speaking to the crowd, Copeland explained that Cage sustained the injuries just five minutes into their three-way ladder match for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at All Out on September 26.
According to Copeland, Cage was thrown into a ladder during the match, breaking three ribs, including one that fractured in three separate places. He also suffered a collapsed lung. Despite the severity of the injuries, Cage continued competing and remained involved in the closing stages of the contest.
Copeland praised his longtime partner’s determination, saying Cage was still climbing the ladder and reaching for championships late in the match. He attributed Cage’s decision to continue wrestling to his work ethic and dedication to entertaining the fans.
Christian Cage’s AEW Return Timeline Remains Unclear
No timetable has been announced for Christian Cage’s return to the ring as he continues recovering from his injuries. The 52-year-old has been a prominent member of AEW’s roster since joining the promotion in early 2021.
During his time with the company, Cage has enjoyed considerable championship success, including two reigns as TNT Champion, as well as holding the AEW World Trios Championship and AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Cage and Copeland captured the AEW World Tag Team Championships from FTR at Double or Nothing in May before losing the titles to The Young Bucks in the three-way ladder match at All Out, which also featured FTR.
The injury update came shortly before Copeland made a major announcement regarding his own wrestling future. The WWE Hall of Famer confirmed that 2027 will be his final year competing professionally, revealing his intention to pursue the AEW World Championship before retiring.
For Cage, however, the immediate priority remains recovering from the injuries sustained at All Out, with AEW yet to confirm when he might return to television or in-ring competition.
