Matt Cardona has provided an update on Chelsea Green following the injury that left the Interim WWE Women’s Champion with a damaged orbital bone.
Chelsea Green suffered the injury following a botched finishing move involving Fatal Influence members Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley. Despite concerns surrounding her immediate WWE status, Green is still expected to be present for Friday night’s episode of SmackDown.
Matt Cardona confirmed the news on Twitter while travelling to Boston alongside his wife and WWE legend Haku. SmackDown takes place from TD Garden on August 14.
“I’m sitting first class going to @WWE #SmackDown sitting next to the WWE Women’s Champion (my wife @ImChelseaGreen) and sitting in the row behind the real life LJN Haku. Living the dream!”
Cardona’s post confirms that Green has made the trip to Boston, although it remains unclear what role she will have on the show due to the nature of her injury.
Chelsea Green Is Not Expected To Relinquish The Interim WWE Women’s Title Despite Recent Injury
The development follows a recent WrestleVotes report on Chelsea Green’s championship status. According to the report, Green does not intend to relinquish the Interim WWE Women’s Championship and is expected to remain involved with WWE programming while dealing with the injury.
Green became Interim WWE Women’s Champion while Rhea Ripley was sidelined after undergoing knee surgery.
The orbital injury raised questions over whether WWE could be forced to make another change to the championship picture. However, the latest indications suggest Green intends to continue appearing on television rather than immediately giving up the title.
Her ability to compete remains unclear, with no timetable provided for an in-ring return.
For now, Green is confirmed to be in Boston ahead of SmackDown, but WWE has yet to reveal how the Interim Women’s Champion will be used on the August 14 episode.
