Eric Bischoff has released a statement giving fans an update on Hulk Hogan’s health.
“Hulk Hogan had a very successful cervical surgery and is experiencing some adverse reaction. He’s doing well and should be home later today. Doctors expecting a full recovery,” he told The Wrestling Observer.
Earlier in the day, radio host Bubba the Love Sponge (Todd Alan Clem), claimed wrestling legend Hulk Hogan was facing a serious health crisis.
Sponge said he was told by “pretty damn reliable” sources that Hogan’s friends and relatives are being summoned to the hospital he is currently in.
“I have some pretty reliable information last night that there are phone calls being made to various family members about getting to town to come say your goodbyes,” he said.
Sponge was told by his sources that it is a heart issue that has landed him in hospital.
“I think it is a heart issue. I have been told he talked about a neck fusion surgery. I don’t know if it is complications to that but my sources say it is complications to that because within 72 hours of him having this semi-major neck fusion surgery he is out promoting this new wrestling league, doing personal appearances at liquor stores and bars that carry his new beer. He had no business being out and about,” he said.
Sponge claimed Hogan’s camp downplayed the neck surgery in the media.
Sponge did backtrack a bit after breaking the news saying: “I still want to frame it in case he got discharged at midnight last night and I have not been able to talk to my sources since yesterday at 6:00 PM. My sources are that and I don’t know it to be true, rumour has it, allegedly, Hogan is in the hospital and I have heard that people say he might not make it…He is not doing well. He is not in good shape.”
Sponge joked that he would be at the “top of the list of NOT getting in” to see Hogan.
Back in 2006, Sponge’s wife invited Hogan to their home and Bubba secretly recorded the encounter. The tape was later leaked to the public. Hogan filed a lawsuit for invasion of privacy against Sponge, his wife and Gawker Media. Hogan was awarded $146 million.
